Telstra backs away from equality
Telstra One of the largest telecommunications company's in Australia was part of this group. Sadly after weeks of rumors they have admitted they are no longer fighting for equality.
The Catholic Church threatened Telstra, pointing out that the catholic church is a large customer of telstra's, and it seems Telstra have succumbed to the bullying.
Telstra responded to the outrage of its moral pro-equality customers by releasing a statement, saying:
"Telstra has a long tradition of supporting diversity and inclusion.
Our position on the issue has not changed. We place great importance on diversity and standing against all forms of discrimination.
We also recognise this diversity means our employees, customers and shareholders will have a range of personal views on this topic.
What has changed is that the Government has indicated it will call a plebiscite on the issue and, ultimately, Parliament will decide the matter.
Our people and stakeholders can contribute to this process and out of respect, it is important we allow them to voice their own views.
Given this we have no further plans to be active in the debate."

As you can see, after claiming their position has not changed they explain that their position has changed. They are obviously opting out of support of equal rights for LGBT people, and are therefore standing against such rights.
They are saying that the voices of the victims of discrimination, crying for equality are equal to the hate speech the bigots, homophobes, and terrorists are spewing.
In fact by removing their support for equal rights they are saying that the bigots voices are more important, and deserve to be heard without opposition.
As for there being a "debate" well i disagree, in my opinion there is an oppressed minority wanting equal rights as the constitution demands, and a group of bigoted extremists wanting to continue to discriminate against that group. I don't think that is an appropriate platform of a debate.
The fact that Telstra is trying to use the proposed plebiscite as an excuse for such behavior seems like another example of why a plebiscite is a very bad idea.
Going further Telstra has dismissed one customers concerns saying their desire for equal rights was nothing but ideology.
On a personal note, i have to wonder, have Telstra taken this stance a step further? Are they now actively discriminating against their LGBT customers? After all the problems i have had with Telstra recently i do have to wonder.
