Love Court Love

Margret Court Vs love

Margret Court is a former Australian tennis player and a "christian" minister. She had a distinguished career as a tennis player, she was awarded an Order of British Empire and an Order of Australia which she still has despite her actions since retirement.  She has had show court one at the sports and entertainment complex in Melbourne park renamed to Margret Court Arena in her honor, this has remained the name despite her attacks on Innocent Australians.

Unfortunately she has a horrible track record when it comes to her morality and decency.  Through her after- tennis life she has fought against the Australian constitution, and LGBT rights. She has supported the Australian (anti-) Family Association which can only reasonably be describes as a hate group. She even attacked Qantas after the CEO came out in support of human rights.

Some of the ridiculous comments she has made are that 'Tennis is full of lesbians that take children to partys', she claims that transgender children were the work of the devil, She falsely equated sexual education to Nazis and communism, She has railed against an anti bullying program that helps LGBT children make it through their school years alive, She claims LGBT people are unable to love and only exhibit a lust for flesh, She has also claimed that Australia is a theocracy, Her views are obviously homophobic, racist and inaccurate. It is also important to note that she amazingly still claims to not be homophobic, despite her devotion to denying the rights (and even existence) of LGBT Australians including children.

She has claimed that any effort by people with knowledge of LGBT issues to merely correct her misconceptions or to rename the arena after a non-racist and non-homophobic person are ironically bullying.

Despite promising the LGBT community that Australia would have no place for homophobia or hate speech, Malcolm Turnbull supported her views, and keeping the Melbourne park named after her.
...or its at Margret Court Arena of course.

A lot of the media handled Courts deplorable views a bit dangerously.Very few news stories pointed out that her views were not supported by facts, and were inaccurate to say the least. Any attempt to correct the record on the dangerously inaccurate things she was saying was often reported by right wingers as preventing her free speech, despite her very public platform. I also don't think i seen any calls for all christians or women or tennis players to own her actions and to publicly denounce her disgusting views.
Attacks on LGBT children are horrible as it is, and her evil comments show how important programs like Safe Schools anti-bullying programs really are. But now that the government has kowtowed to the vocal minority that doesn't want LGBT kids to survive through their school years, such homophobic comments become even more dangerous.
I really do feel that public figures have a responsibility to fact check what they say before they go public, especially when kids lives are at risk.

If homophobia is effecting you as a victim of it or even as a perpetrator please get help.

It looks like the petition to re-name the arena is still active.

Glitter Vs Evil

 Glitter Vs Evil

I did address this in my review of the awesome book Colouring The Rainbow so check that out. Andrew Bolt is a (legally confirmed) racist and homophobe (by his own words).
Andrew Bolt recently had a major hussy-fit after he (by his own admission) violently "assaulted" someone for merely playing a prank on him. The prank being that glitter was thrown in his direction. Andrew Bolt's defenders are saying that Bolt should escape charges because Bolt's homophobia runs so deep that the mere physical contact with glitter enrages him into uncontrolled hysterical violent attacks.
I should note that as of this writing charges of assault have yet to be applied to him, and i believe he is trying to play the victim in this encounter, it seems apparent that the mainstream media are quite willing to side with him.

It would appear Andrew Bolt has a long history of seemingly attacking minority's while being a very sensitive snowflake himself.  He is loving playing the victim he claims that his fascist views have drawn the attention of an anti-facscist group , who he blames for the glitter prank.
Please for your own safety do not try and enlighten Andrew Bolt by sprinkling glitter about him or his person. In fact its best not to glitter anyone against their wishes, no matter how disgusting they are or how many years they have devoted to attacking innocent minority groups. Obviously throwing glitter at a fascist is wrong, but Bolts assault on the pranksters and his melodrama since was completely over the top.

If homophobes are getting you down, or you are having homophobic thoughts please seek help.

Breaking News: Did Hanson say something factual?

Pauline Hanson of the racist OneNation* party has declared that she still doesn’t support equal rights for LGBT Australians, because she mistakenly thinks that giving gay people equal rights would somehow take rights away from her. This of course nonsense and matches her usual uniformed opinion

Its like she has her "whites" only beach where she swims, and there is infinite room, but she doesn't want any "non-whites" on the beach because she thinks it would somehow take away her ability to beach, or redefine what swimming was or something. Its sometimes really difficult to understand this kind of stupid.

Or

It like if she stole a recipe for pancakes from a Pagan group and shared it with all her Christian friends. But then when the Pagans asked her for a copy she refused saying that doing so would be taking pancakes away from her and would lessen her pancake experience.

OR

Its actually exactly like she has the rights to do something that other Australians have had taken away from them through no fault of there own. And she doesn't want them to have the same rights as her because, because i cant even think of a legitimate reason. She has said she is against same-sex people marrying because she doesn't personally need to marry someone of the same sex, but that cant be it really can it? Is she really just petty, selfish and cruel?

Does she think same-sex marriage would be compulsory? Does she think opposite sex marriages would be annulled? Does she believe that couples will be magically sex changed so they would no longer be in opposite sex marriages?
Please Pauline become informed before you speak, there are gullible people who believe what you say at face value. I doubt she even consulted one LGBT group before spouting this nonsense.

When confronted with the documented fact, proven by professionals that the kind of hate speech allowed by a plebiscite on human rights would be damaging to the LGBT community she said, "i don't agree with that"
She really thinks that her uniformed opinion is more important and accurate than actual qualified professional studies.
I knew she was ignorant but this is willfully so. She has the facts presented to her and just says no, as if she can alter the fabric of reality with her obnoxious rebuttal. Well i suppose that fits in well with the other conspiracy theories of OneNation* members. Who voted for this kind of anti-intellectualism?

She also supports the homophobic plebiscite that even if it passed and all that, wouldn’t give equality to LGBT Australians as the LIB/Nats will put in legislation allowing same-sex couples to be legally discriminated against, that’s not equal rights.
She went on, and I kid you not, she went on to say that if LGBT Australians don’t like not having equal rights they should leave Australia.
Is that her solution for everything, does she have shares in passenger liners or something?
I suppose we can get on the same boat as the Asians, Muslims and Aboriginals, oh that’s right it cant be a boat, boats are still bad right?. Does OneNation* believe in the science of aerodynamics? I have my doubts as OneNation* is so anti-science and anti-facts.
It is so ironic that despite the fact that OneNation* supporters want to change our constitution and don't like Australians freedoms and rights, and want to change these things. It is them who say "Australia, love it or leave!" They fail to acknowledge how hypocritical this is. I prefer to love what is right with Australia, and work towards changing those that are not, to make Australia better for everyone. If anyone needs to leave, can it be the racists, and bigots, please?
The amount of exceptions to the One Nation she wants to create grows more every day.

She was sort of right when she said that Australia should stop listening to minority's. But she was right only in that Australia needs to stop listening to OneNation*, as they only got less then 5% of the vote they are a very vocal minority indeed.

But she is wrong because the reason we should stop listening to OneNation* isn't because they are a minority, it is because they spout ignorant, uniformed, bigoted nonsense.

However she did say she would vote yes on equal rights if the plebiscite result was yes, so hey she is right in doing that. I just hope if it comes to that, that it hasn't cost too many LGBT lives.
But before you start checking the ancient texts to see if Hanson being right is a sign of the apocalypse, her reasoning is still wrong.
She shouldn't vote for marriage equality because a popular vote said it was popular (and polls already show that by the way), no she should be fighting for equality, because it is the right thing to do.

Reactions to the dondale chrisis.

Reactions to child abuse.

Most Australians were appalled and disgusted by the horrible revelations made by the four corners program. This program exposed the government sanctioned abuse and torture of children in detention.

Some Australians however reacted in a very different way. They took to Parliament to try to water down our anti-discrimination laws. I am so ashamed that some Australians reaction to seeig Aboriginal children tortured was to try to remove the limited protections they have under the law.

It should be noted that our anti-discrimination laws are only ever used in the most heinous and public of cases.

We can see a few familiar faces behind this pro-racism push.

There is Cory, who made a name for himself with his homophobia, but he seems to be spreading his prejudice around. Cory has loudly attacked the freedom of speech of his victims, when those victims accurately describe his attacks as homophobia.
It should be noted that he did not seek to change the fact that the big religions are exempt from most anti-discrimination laws.

And we cant forget Pauline ruler of One Nation, who has made racism and bigotry her platform as a professional politician. Pauline is well known for her attacks on freedom of speech and expression.

Roberts of One Nation seems to be a conspiracy theorist. I think the fact someone voted for him means we need a re-think of our voting system, like at least making information on the candidates available to the voting public.

I cant see much information on Brian Burston, being that he is pro-racism and willingly joined One Nation we can probably assume sadly, that he shares its other bigoted views.

Rod Culleton is another One Nation member, i cant see much about him, other then he claims to have helped farmers against the banks, and has had a larceny conviction annulled. One wonders as he is with One Nation, if he would support farmers of another race, religion or sexuality?

These people and their pro-racism reaction to the Dondale kids expose sicken me. If they are your government representatives please let them know we need to strength anti-discrimination laws, not weaken them.

Its trash Day: Sonia Kruger

Its trash Day: Sonia Kruger

Sonia Kruger is apparently a 'media personality', i had to look it up as i preferring my news unbiased, i don't actually watch much commercial television.

Sonia Kruger made derogatory comments in 2008 saying:

"Let's just say there's a sweatshop full of illegal immigrants working on them right now,'' Kruger said before referring to Lim, the show's Malaysian-born musical director.

"How's the family, Chong? All right?''

The station apologized without reservation for her offensive comments.

It seems she may have learn her lesson about trivializing the plight of sweatshop workers and immigrants, but unfortunately she has turned her attention to religious discrimination.
Sonia Kruger has called for the scrapping of the Australian constitution and the ban of Muslims entering Australia. She wants our country to do this because she is frightened of tourism. her uneducated comments were apparently inspired by an Andrew Bolt article, she might fell better if she didn't read that anymore and got her news from more respectable sources.

For those who are lucky enough to not know who Andrew Bolt is, he is a radical right commentator who has widely been criticized for quoting leaked  intelligence documents, being a stolen generation denier, publicly defaming a female magistrate, racial discrimination against Aboriginal Australians, and his homophobia.

Back to Sonia Kruger, she has now added LGBT children to her list of enemy's. She has attacked the one scholarship that was designed for an LGBT year 10 student. She seemed to be implying that people can not make a person disadvantaged for being LGBT. With the recent attacks and neutering of the Safe Schools anti-bullying program it seems scholarships like this one are even more necessary. She seems visibly pained by the idea of a young LGBT person getting a fair go.
I do wonder if she is also against scholarships based on race, gender, or economics?
I am also left to wonder just how serious she is about opposing terrorism when she carries on in such a homophobic manner, has she so quickly forgotten the Orlando Pulse tragedy
No you really cant be both, you cant be against terrorism and for homophobia.

I can speak from experience, at my high school i was forced to the deputy's office every morning and told i wasn't welcome at the school, i was told that i should leave. I spent many days in 'the room' (isolation cell) and was eventually refused a school certificate, at least in part due to my sexuality.

Can you guess which disadvantaged minority she will attack next?

 Some Statistics:
61% of LGBT youth experience homophobia.
18% of LGBT youth experience physical homophobic abuse.
80% of Homophobic bullying of youth happens at school.
LGBT youth are three times more likely to experience depression due to the homophobia in our society.

Australia's Shame: Child Abuse

Australia's Shame

By now everyone should have heard about the abuse of children uncovered by the ABC Four Corners program.
The short of it is that children held in detention centers in the Northern Territory of Australia are being abused and tortured for years with knowledge of the minister in charge.
The government responded to public pressure by announcing a royal commission into the matter, but many are not happy with the terms of reference that this RC has been given. As an example the fact that many of the children being tortured are Aboriginal was not mentioned as needing addressing, in addition to the commission being limited to only the Northern Territory institutions.

It should also be noted that the victims are suing the state institution and the Northern Territory has shamefully decided to counter sue, this is not how we should handle abuse victims.

We are disgusted in this abuse and have to wonder what is wrong with people to be able to do this kind of thing. Lets have a look at some of the possible influences that may have led us to this.

We know of the old saying that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, and of the scientific studies showing that this old adage is indeed true. So more oversight, regular and independent review of footage, regular mental health checks for both inmates and staff, both might help in reducing instances like this in the future.

These particular instances of abuse obviously have a racial element, and with the rise of racist groups in Australia we really do need to clip this in the bud. People need to know it is not OK to abuse others due to their race. There may not be much we can do about the rise of racism in Australia, but we can educate our children, and continue to point out the racism of white supremacist groups. We can perhaps employ Aboriginal staff in centers where there are a large number of Aboriginal inmates.

We need to stand up for the rights of children, when we have politicians attacking an anti-bulling program in out schools. When we have our Prime Minister bowing down to pressure from these politicians we cant be surprised when bullying of children is seen as acceptable in our society. You might think its just dandy for these people to fight for the bullying of LGBT children but what happens when its not just differences in sexuality, what happens when they turn their attention to race, gender, or class?

Both major political parties in Australia favor offshore imprisonment of refugees. Refugees have been falsely imprisoned, abused, and killed in these camps. The refugees in these prisons are men, women and children. Can we be so shocked that our treatment of non Australian children influences our treatment of Australian children?

This expose comes at the same time as George Pell, who has long been believed to have covered up pedophile priests within the church, faced more allegations of child abuse. We have chaplains in schools replacing skilled school counselors. We seriously need to keep church and government as separate as possible, when once respected institutions, that some still see as having the moral high ground, are complacent in abuse of children.

We have hate groups and government ministers arguing that all Australians shouldn't have equal rights. When it seems acceptable to vilify and discriminate against innocent Australians, is it any wonder that basic human rights are being violated?

Australia has a lot of work to do, we have a lot of damage to repair. This shame belongs to all of us, and you have an important role to play. Please stand up against racism, homophobia, sexism and the abuse of children, if we lose our humanity who knows where this could lead, it has already gone too far.
Choose empathy and respect, instead of ignorance and hate.

Bigot Point: Political Correctness

Bigot Point: Political Correctness

I have really only ever experienced this term used when someone defends a minority or discriminated party with that action of defense being dismissed as mere political correctness (or PC).
The term political correctness is often used by some as a pejorative to shut down opposition to their offensive behavior.
But what exactly does the term mean?

The avoidance of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.

So political correctness is basically being polite and not discriminating against or vilifying those who are already being vilified or discriminated against.
In other words political correctness is not laying the boot in when someone is already on the ground bleeding.

What kind of monster would proudly proclaim that they were not politically correct?
If you take a look at those who oppose "political correctness' it wont be long until you see some racist, sexist, homophobic or generally just bigoted views.
Growing up i just heard the term political correct and assumed it meant to be aligned with the current government or something. Of course later after seeing the term used to silence the cry's of the oppressed i came to think of it as merely a term used by bigots to try to make illegitimate valid criticism of their behavior. I still never really liked the term political correctness and never wore it so to speak.

But it is only that some are saying marriage equality is political correctness, that i actually looked up what the term meant.
I suppose the current marriage laws do exclude and marginalize a discriminated and often insulted group of people so marriage equality could be considered politically correct. But its far more truthful to say marriage equality is just fair and equal treatment of Australians.

I was at this party one night and i got motioned over to a conversation between this burly biker type and a few others. The person who motioned me over said something like
"Dropbear might have an interesting perspective on this'
So burly biker looks at me and says; "Them gays they want to force schools into not saying mother and father, its political correctness garbage!"
Now i hadn't actually heard of the story, but could imagine it was probably about a same sex couple asking a teacher to say parent or guardians so there kid wasn't excluded. I replied:
"I didn't get the memo, but i don't see a problem with teachers saying parents or guardians, it makes sense as not every child has a mother and father."
He interrupted saying "We shouldn't change things just for the gays. That instead schools should be forced to say mother and father"
I continued "Well its not just for gay parents, there are single parent family's, there are adopted children, blended family's, and children with guardians like i had.
Its only a minor change to wording, so why not do it if little billy doesn't have to be reminded of his dead mother every time the teacher tells the kids to get their mother and father to do something, it doesn't hurt anyone to be inclusive."
He looked puzzled and looked around the group of people, it was pretty clear common sense had prevailed with them, he looked down a bit and said "i hadn't thought of it that way, the radio made it sound different."
I sympathized saying something like "They sure do like to stir the pot."

In any event being politically correct isn't a bad thing, its basically not being a bad person, but i still think the term is an unnecessary insult word used by those who don't want the facts to get in the way of their mistreatment of others.
If you are guilty of using this term in an attempt to stifle criticism of your opinion, maybe actually listen to the person instead. They may have knowledge you don't possess. If instead of trying to shut them down, you make a valid argument  you could convince them that you are right, try it, because everyone likes to be correct.

 So i still wont be wearing a PC badge any time soon. However next time someone trys to insult me by calling me politically correct, i may just say;
"Thank you, i do try to be a decent human being."

Fair Dink'um: Murrandoo Yanner

Fair Dink'um

 Murrandoo Yanner

You have to admire the true Australian spirit of those who stand up for the little guy, who defend the underdog and say it like it is.

Pauline Hanson a professional politician from the One Nation party. One Nation has racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, and unconstitutional policy. Hanson herself has a long history of racism towards Aboriginal Australians, Asians and her latest target are Muslims.  She has been consistently prejudiced against LGBT Australians.
She is popular among 'low information' voters who see her calculated fear mongering and oversimplified "solutions" as common sense.

Pauline Hanson recently took a film crew unannounced to an Aboriginal art exhibit presumably to try to fool gullible people into thinking she was not racist.

Murrandoo Yanner is an Aboriginal community leader who defended his people and common decency by saying what most Australians are thinking. He was having none of her nonsense and colorfully told her where to go saying:

'-You picked on Aboriginal people.
Now you are kicking the Muslims around, you are just a racist redneck with your red hair,
Go away, go back to Ipswich and your fish and chip shop, you're disgraceful, you are intellectually dishonest and you are not welcome here.'

Unfortunately only part of the exchange was caught on camera. But we see Mr Yanner defend his people and then go on to defend Australians freedoms. As Hanson walked away not wanting to publicly address her behavior the crowd applauded Mr Yammer.
Perhaps she didn't expect Aboriginal people to be there or didn't expect to be called out on her past behavior, in any event she couldn't get out of there fast enough.
If i truly believed Hanson was just ignorant i would hope that this episode might show her how her abuse effects real people. But I don't think she is just ignorant, she has had many years to educate herself and to see how her abuse effects people, yet she seems to continue to offer scapegoats and illogical over simplified 'solutions' to 'problems' she herself often exasperates.
Sadly we will see other racists try to twist this around and defend her racism. But i have an admittedly naive hope that some of her followers may see this and actually look into her past racism and realise discrimination and prejudice is not the answer.
